Frio River + unplugged = Relaxed

We spent the last week on the Frio River at Riverbend on the Frio.

Our site was right by the river, we had very little to zero cell service, no TV service (and we do not have a mobile satellite TV service), only a few radio stations would come through in the travel trailer but were good on our emergency radio, lots of shade from trees and it was breezy most of the week. Star gazing wasn’t very good because of the trees but we had a few open spaces that worked out just fine.

We made good food and had fun playing games. We even had some good rain showers that came throughout the week, one was very early morning with booming thunder! It was a very pleasant week.

We had family at Garner State Park and got to spend time with them there and they also spent time at our place too.

The Frio did not disappoint! It was cold, had wildlife in and around it and made for some interesting people watching at times.

On our way to and from the Frio every year our halfway point is Pleasanton/Jourdanton for gas and usually a stop at the local Whataburger. With the travel trailer the past few years we have to stop and go in. With the shut down this year though it was drive-thru or nothing because these people I travel with are Whataburger fiends! So what does Mama do? She orders online and walks up through the drive-thru for her family and takes all the stares from the vehicles because that’s how she rolls.

All in all we had a great Frio River vacation.

Covid19 and Quarantine

Well it’s been fun 2020 but can we please have our lives back?!

As a family of 5 all working and schooling online from home it hasn’t been too bad. Yes, of course we’ve probably all gotten a little soft from not being as active and eating too much. Yes, we could be going for walks or bike rides and staying out of the kitchen…..but oh well.

We have been working all day and going up to the lake in the afternoons and weekends to work on the lake house so it hasn’t been too bad being stuck at home. You’d think my house would be spotless but apparently not having the time to deep clean has really not been the reason I haven’t done it. I just don’t want to do it and that’s ok 😉 I have a happy functioning household and I’m good with that…at least until it’s time to have company and then panic sets in but since we’re not allowed to have company so be it.

So speaking of the lake house being rebuilt here are some pics to see how far it’s come.

Sunset

I love being with the people I ❤️ and taking in these moments. We’ve been working at the lake this afternoon and it’s time to go home for the evening.

My rock….

This guy right here is my rock. We’ve been through some stuff in our 32 years together. He gets my twisted sense of humor and puts up with finding my vehicle with only 4 miles to empty in the gas tank.

Prayers

This was my spot for saying a few prayers for my Dawson Elementary School family. Over this holiday weekend we have had a home lost to fire, a death in the family and a medical emergency that required an out of town surgery and hospitalization. Please find a spare minute to pray for us all to get through these difficult times 🙏

Another Garner trip in the books!

We just spent our annual Summer week at Garner State Park – a Gabbert Family tradition since 1977. After a tire blow out on the travel trailer and incompetent insurance roadside hazard people we continued on our way.

Bikes were ridden, rapids and the Frio river were tubed, junk food and ice cream was eaten, river roads were driven, rocks were searched for, naps were taken, sunburns, sweat and bug bites were had. It was a great week!
